The place of locomotion according to the ICF classification
Locomotion ability, as measured by ABILOCO and ABILOCO-Kids, is defined as the individual’s ability to move about effectively in his/her environment. It refers to the Activity domain of the ICF.

Development of the ABILOCO-Kids scale using the Rasch measurement model
The ABILOCO-Kids questionnaire assesses locomotion ability as a test focused on the child's difficulty perceived by the child's parents.This questionnaire was originally developed using Rasch measurement model which allows to convert ordinal scores into linear measures located on a unidimensional scale.
ABILOCO-Kids has been calibrated in children with cerebral palsy (Caty et al, 2007) according the difficulty of children in performing locomotion activities as perceived by their parents. The original version of ABILOCO-Kids was developed in French. However, other version is currently available in English (see downloads section).
Synopsis
ABILOCO-Kids in cerebral palsy children
- 10 locomotion activities perceived by the children’s parents.
- Each item is answered on a 3-level scale (impossible, difficult, easy).
- Measurement range: approx. 9 logits.
- Separation reliability: 0.97 in our sample of 113 children with cerebral palsy.
- Invariant item hierarchy across: sex, age, clinical presentation (hemiplegia, diplegia, or quadriplegia).
- Test-retest reliability: ICC = 0.96 after a delay of 25 ± 13 days
- Construct validity: ABILOCO-Kids vs GMFCS (ρ = -0.88).
