Downloading test packages
The test packages for administrating the SATISPART-Stroke questionnaire are available for download to registered users. Registration is FREE and will only take a few minutes to complete. The test packages are available in French and English. Each package contains the instruction sheet and the testing forms in 10 random orders.
Administering the questionnaire
The SATISPART-Stroke questionnaire is administered on an interview basis or preferentially self administrated (patients do not realize the life situation). Patients are asked to estimate the satisfaction or dissatisfaction level in performing each life situation, when these last ones are done:
- In the last month which precede the filling out of questionnaire ;
- Whatever the strategy used to do the life situation;
- Whatever the compensation allowed.
During the evaluation, a 4-level response scale is presented to the patients. Patients are asked to rate their perception on the response scale as either "Very dissatisfied", "Dissatisfied", “Satisfied” or "Very satisfied". Life situations not attempted in the last month are not scored and are entered as missing responses (tick the question mark).
The scores are entered as shown in the Figure01.
Analysing the subject's responses
Patient's responses to the questionnaires can be submitted for an online analysis on this web site. The analysis is based on the Rasch model and allows raw scores to be converted into linear measures of ability. The conversion can be done despite the missing values (“?” responses). Ten data input forms are available in the same order as the paper testing forms. Select the order of items (1 to 10) used to evaluate the patient and enter the responses on the online form. Submit the responses for an online analysis of the patient responses and the patient's ordinal score to the questionnaire will be converted into a linear measure of the patient's activity level.
Interpreting the satisfaction in participation measures
The evaluation report is presented in Figure02.
The patient's satisfaction level (vertical red line) and its 95% confidence interval (dotted red lines) are located on the satisfaction scale (abscissa) expressed in logits. The higher the satisfaction level of a patient is, the more the measure will be located to the right.
The logit is a linear unit that expresses the odds of success of the patient on any given item. The satisfaction scale is centred on the average satisfying item (0 logit).
The item map lists the items from top to bottom by increasing satisfying order. The item map shows the most probable score (0 = "Very dissatisfied", 1 = "Dissatisfied", 2 = Satisfied or 3 = "Very satisfied") to each item as a function of the satisfaction representation of the subject and the underlying item's satisfaction measure. Note also that the most probable score for any given item increases with the subject’s perceived satisfaction.
The item map can be used for treatment planning and follow-up as it shows the item(s) that should be recovered first during the rehabilitation process.
The sigmoid curve shown at the bottom relates the total score on the questionnaire to the satisfaction in participation measure (for a complete response set). Note that the score increases with satisfaction level, although the increase is not linear given the shape of the curve. Therefore changes of satisfaction level must be interpreted in linear logit units rather than in raw scores.
The patient's response to each item is circled (missing responses are not shown).
For any particular item, the range overlapping the 95% confidence interval indicates the most probable score(s) given the overall satisfaction level measure. Note that in the example, most scores fit with the overall satisfaction level and are coherent across items.
The evaluation report also indicates the patient's satisfaction measure on the scale and the standard error of measurement (in logits). Keep those in your records in order to measure the patient recovery at a future occasion.
